A slew of new bills that aim to crack down on online harassment, including a bill that would bar companies from sharing customer data with third parties, have been introduced in the wake of the #MeToo movement.
But a recent report from the Government Accountability Office says these bills would have a devastating effect on online privacy, especially for women and people of color.
The GAO says that as many as 8.4 million people in the US are impacted by online harassment each year, and the problem will only get worse as time goes on.
